Thoughts on Sacrifice...

In this day and age, many of us don't really have a grasp of what true sacrifice is...

Unless we're MOTHERS.

We sacrifice:

sleep,

time,

hobbies & interests,

our very bodies and lives.

But we also do something sacred when we dedicate our bodies to the creation of life. It is an enormous sacrifice that God sees and sanctifies.

It can mean morning sickness, heartburn, swollen ankles and feet, stretch marks, sore joints and muscles, insomnia, crankiness.

And then come the rigors of labor, birth, recovery, more insomnia, sore breasts, nursing.

Then there are the sacrifices that go on and on, through all our children, throughout their lives.

What is it all for?

"Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends."
(John 15:13 KJV)

Motherhood refines and purifies us. But it is the late nights, the struggles, the faith we place in God that makes us better than we could ever be without them.

Yet, motherhood is the sweetest work in the world, and we are so very privileged to be called to it!

It's a sacrifice that all of heaven notices.

What a blessing to give.

  1. That's just what my mother have always said, and I agree. I hope and pray that I will be blessed with this oppurtunity of sacrifice myself someday.

Your new baby is absoloutley adorable, by the way - such lovely hair and sweet features!

  2. Awww! What a precious little girl! The sacrifice is worth it...now that they are starting to head out of the home I am bombarded with loneliness over them being "missing".

  3. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Motherhood has been one of the hardest things I've had to learn and do each and everyday, but I wouldn't trade it for anything. This is such a great post, such a good reminder.

  4. So true. If it wasn't so hard it wouldn't be so wonderful. It truly is a blessing that we can receive no other way than to go through the hard work.

  7. I, too, just had a baby, so your thoughts rang especially true with me. Motherhood is so refining. When I hear a woman say she has chosen not to have children, for whatever reason, I always think how much she will miss out on and the opportunity for so much growth. Love your blog. Such a sanctuary in a confused world.
