Proud to be a Housewife!

From the wonderful Tasha Tudor:

"I enjoy doing housework; ironing, washing, cooking, dishwashing. Whenever I get one of those questionnaires and they ask, 'What is your profession?' I always put down 'housewife.' It's an admirable profession-- why apologize for it? You aren't stupid because you're a housewife. When you're stirring the jam, you can read Shakespeare."

  1. What a lovely quote. I have a book about Marjorie Hinckley, she might have been her kindred spirit, she made similar comment in that book. Nice to get that validation, as a homemaker, sometimes!

Hope you are enjoying your new baby and recovering well!

    Blessings to You and Yours,
    Eve

  2. Please don't go anywhere! I've searched the web over the last few days for blogs or sites with other SAHMs and housewives. The majority I found were riddled with the F bomb, or ridiculed the thought of serving their home or husband. While my husband never "expects" anything from me, I treat him like a king, because...well...he treats me like a queen. He works 10-12 hours a day, so why shouldn't he come home to a clean house, and have a homemade meal ready for him? He leaves the house at 6:20 in the morning and, on his early days, gets home around 6:30. He deserves to be pampered after the junk he goes through every day!

  3. I too think the title of housewife should be honored. We do work hard. Another thought I have used is Sidetracked Home Executive; that describes me. You could leave off the sidetracked part.
Blessings and keep on enjoying those Christmas moments.

  4. I have never heard of Tasha Tudor before today, but she has a wonderful perspective on the role of motherhood. It IS admirable! I am so proud to be doing what I am doing, and I am happy to be finding more and more women that feel the same! :-)

  6. My mom laughs because my kitchen is strewn with books--books that I read while stirring soup, kneading bread dough, or even (unwisely) chopping onions! I read aloud to small children and older children. I read in bed at night and first thing in the morning! What other job would allow me so much freedom to study on my own?!?!?
